Visit of MdB Lars Castelucci, 5.-8. August 2024

Lars Castellucci, the current Chairman of the Bundestag's Committee on Internal Affairs, was invited by the Chairman of the Cypriot Government's Committee on Internal Affairs, Mr. Aristos Damianou, to see this for himself from 5 to 8 August 2024.

EU countries with direct external borders face a number of challenges. This is particularly true for islands and even more so for Cyprus. Lars Castellucci, the current Chairman of the Bundestag's Committee on Internal Affairs, was invited by the Chairman of the Cypriot Government's Committee on Internal Affairs, Mr. Aristos Damianou, to see this for himself from 5 to 8 August 2024.

The head of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Cyprus, Prof. Dr. Hubert Faustmann, was on hand to advise him during his stay.

The talks focused on current migration policy in Cyprus and the implementation of the Common European Asylum System.
Thank you for the exchange!

PS:
The picture shows the first two German policewomen on assignment for UNFICYP. The UNFICYP (United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus) was founded in 1964 to promote peace on the island. In addition to monitoring the demilitarized zone and supporting dialogue between communities, UNFICYP contributes to migration policy by managing refugee camps and humanitarian aid.
