The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the PRIO Cyprus Centre invite you to the conference “National, International and human security in the Eastern Mediterranean”; this conference aims to elaborate on developments and perspectives on socio-political changes with a direct security impact in the region and beyond.
The Eastern Mediterranean warrants a reassessment in particular as a distinct geopolitical sub-system as a result of developments due to the reconfiguration of great-power influence as well as the repercussions for regional relations.
Since 2011, the Eastern Mediterranean has been undergoing dramatic socio-political changes with a direct security impact in the region and beyond. The conference aims to bring together distinguished scholars from all over the Eastern Mediterranean to discuss global power shifts and geopolitical changes as well as socio-political transformations in the region and to evaluate opportunities for and obstacles to inter-state cooperation and regionalism.
The aim is twofold: to re-conceptualize the Eastern Mediterranean as a space and collectivity of actors in light of the changing geopolitical environment; and to unpack current security perceptions in the region from the point of view of local and international considerations and motives.
