Join us for a special event exploring waste management in Cyprus - from historical insights to future strategies
Wednesday, 14th May 2025: 11.30 – 13:30
University of Nicosia, M104, Millennium Building, 1st floor
On the occasion of the recent publication:“Towards sustainable waste management in Cyprus”, the University of Nicosia in cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Foundation Cyprus Office is pleased to invite you to a special event featuring two insightful presentations that explore the past, present, and future of waste management in Cyprus.
In his presentation, Yaron J. Balslev reflects on waste history and uncovers thereby important characteristics of the 1930s-1940s in Nicosia: urban growth, economic challenges, World War II effects, regional knowledge migration and more.
Building on this foundation, the presentation by Anthi Charalambous explores the current landscape and key challenges of waste management in Cyprus, including the need for improved waste reduction practices and more sustainable treatment approaches. She also presents potential implementation strategies and offers policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the country’s transition toward a more circular and resource-efficient waste management system.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the presentations.
