Event Regional Cooperation Conference: “The Belt and Road Initiative”- China’s new “Silk Road” and the Eastern Mediterranean 11/15/2018 23:00 to 01/01/1970 00:00 - Nicosia In cooperation with PRIO Cyprus Centre, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) was honored to co-host the event “The Belt and Road Initiative”- China’s new “Silk Road” and the Eastern Mediterranean at Goethe-Institut in the UN buffer zone in Nicosia on 16 November 2018. The conference aimed at exploring the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of China with a special emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean. Experts from around the world were called to address questions such as the following: What is the importance of the region for China and what are Beijing’s plans for it? What are the perceptions regarding BRI among Eastern Mediterranean states and how could they contribute to the development of the region? What other great-power interests are at stake? Could China’s policy be beneficial for the Eastern Mediterranean?
